Volcanoes
Lanzarote is a land of fire, lava and silence.
On these routes, I’ll take you walking through some of the island’s most striking volcanic scenery: cones, lapilli fields, solidified lava flows and craters open to the sky.
We’ll talk about geology, but also about history, memory and life. Because walking among volcanoes is also a way to understand the soul of Lanzarote.
Caldera Blanca: Hiking across lava and the memories of Timanfaya
Walking through Caldera Blanca means stepping into the living history of Lanzarote.
This circular, medium-difficulty route takes us through the story of the Timanfaya eruptions—not just as a natural phenomenon, but as a deeply human experience: how the islanders lived through it, what they felt, and how they rebuilt their lives among the ashes.
The landscape is as overwhelming as it is beautiful: solidified lava, fields of ash, silence… and, from the summit, spectacular views of the crater.
We’ll reach an altitude of 468 metres, with an elevation gain of 250 metres, and walk around the rim of a crater 1.2 km in diameter and around 200 metres deep.
This is a powerful, transformative hike—not recommended for people with vertigo—that connects you to the fiery heart of the island.
