Hello, I’m María, a hiking guide and environmental educator based in Lanzarote. For years I’ve been designing and leading tailor-made routes to show the island through an authentic, personal and sustainable perspective.
My work is much more than just walking. On every tour, I share with you the volcanic history of Lanzarote, its rural traditions, unique geology, and the culture that has shaped this landscape. I guide small groups, paying attention to every detail so the experience is calm, respectful and tailored to each traveller.
As a professional committed to responsible tourism, I’m part of Green & Human, and my company has held the Biosphere certification since 2023 – a recognition awarded to businesses that promote sustainable practices.
I also collaborate with local associations, support small businesses, and create custom itineraries for agencies, families, couples or curious travellers who want to discover the real essence of Lanzarote, far from the typical routes.
If you’re looking for more than just a hike – if you want to walk Lanzarote with meaning – I invite you to explore the island with me.
From the beginning, the company has been committed to sustainability, environmental protection, and supporting the local community. This dedication has made Guía En Lanzarote a benchmark in sustainable active tourism, recognised with the Biosphere Sustainable seal since 2023. I was the first hiking guide on the island to achieve this recognition.
My mission is clear: to share the true essence of Lanzarote while protecting the environment and strengthening the local social and economic fabric. I design unique outdoor experiences for small groups, maximising enjoyment while minimising environmental impact.
Design of sustainable routes: small groups of up to 10 people to reduce impact on nature.
Environmental awareness: I promote responsible practices and educate visitors about protecting ecosystems.
Fighting littering: we collect any rubbish we find during our walks, helping keep the environment clean and safe for wildlife.
I actively seek out local small businesses to collaborate with, supporting the island’s economy and offering visitors a more authentic experience.
Through the ecobank project, I support local associations by donating €0.50 per participant. This initiative has helped these organisations meet their goals.
I prioritise working with local and sustainable suppliers, creating a strong network of partners who share my values.
Ongoing training is key to growing as a company and as individuals. I work to raise awareness among clients and collaborators about the importance of preserving Lanzarote’s cultural and natural heritage.
In its first year, the ecobank project was a success, both socially and economically. In 2024, I managed to donate over €100 to each of the participating associations, showing how small gestures can create a big impact. My goal is to continue growing this initiative and include new associations in the coming years.
At Guía En Lanzarote, I look to the future with optimism and responsibility:
Increase positive impact: continue contributing to local society and economy.
Expand the ecohuchas project: add new associations and strengthen the community of collaborators who share the values of the project.
Be a sustainable leader: my aim is to lead by example in the active tourism sector in Lanzarote, proving that it is possible to enjoy the island while respecting its environment and people.
