Sunset in the former capital of Lanzarote

Teguise was the capital of Lanzarote for more than 400 years, and around it, you can still feel the pulse of history, the silence of the land, and the agricultural legacy of the island.

This sunset walk takes us through the Vega de San José, a rural landscape that surrounds the old town from outside its ancient walls. Along peaceful trails, we pass by traditional farmland and traces of the past, as the light softens and the sun lowers over the fields.

We’ll talk about rural heritage, customs, and the collective memory shaped by generations of women and men who lived in deep connection with the land.

The experience ends with a gentle walk through Teguise’s historic centre, where the stones hold stories and the fading daylight enhances the quiet beauty of its plazas, convents, and cobbled streets.

A slow-paced route with no steep slopes — perfect for those who want to discover Teguise from a different perspective: through the land, the silence, and the light of the end of the day.

HIKING ROUTE TO DISCOVER THE HISTORY OF LANZAROTE

A low level route.

From our meeting point, we gradually leave the town of Teguise to walk part of the old path that linked Playa Blanca with Orzola.

A path with hardly any unevenness that will make us enjoy a unique environment, a landscape transformed by Man and where nature also plays an important role.

Halfway through the route we find a slight slope with a gradient of approximately 100m. The effort is worth it since in the end we will enjoy wonderful views of the northwest coast of Lanzarote, with Famara beach in front of our eyes.
