Wine experiences
La Geria is the vineyard area par excellence of Lanzarote, although not the only one. It is located in the south-east of the island, between the municipalities of Yaiza and Tías.
Before the eighteenth-century eruptions, La Geria was one of the most fertile areas of the island, where cereal crops abounded. Today it is a protected landscape for its beauty and here, the effort of the peasants is rewarded by wines of recognized quality.
La Geria is characterized by alandscape made of vine crops that grow at the bottom of some holes, surrounded by semicircular stone walls that serve to protect the vines from the trade winds.
Hiking in La Geria – Volcanic vineyards and wine with history
Guided walking route through La Geria, one of the most distinctive wine landscapes in Lanzarote.
The route begins among vineyards planted in hollows on volcanic ash, where you’ll learn about the origin of this cultivation system and how it adapts to wind and water scarcity.
As the route progresses, it gradually ascends towards the area of Guardilama, offering a broader understanding of the relationship between the Timanfaya eruptions and the formation of this landscape.
Along the way, local grape varieties, cultivation techniques and the influence of the territory on the wine are explained.
The experience finishes at Bodegas Rubicón, with a visit to its traditional wine press and a tasting that connects what you’ve seen during the walk with what you taste in the glass.

Wine experience at the Monumento al Campesino, where the relationship between territory, agriculture and culture in Lanzarote is interpreted.
The experience begins with a guided walk through this space designed by César Manrique, conceived as a tribute to agricultural work and to the island’s rural identity.
Through the visit, you’ll understand how landscape, architecture and traditional practices are part of the same story.
During the walk, the origin of vine cultivation in Lanzarote is explored, connecting this context with the wider culture of wine in the Canary Islands.
The experience continues at La Casa del Vino Canario, where a red wine tasting is paired with artisan chocolate.
A tasting that allows you to recognise in the wine what has been previously interpreted: the character of the territory, its expression in the vineyard and its translation into the glass.
